Passo Rolle – Predazzo

Passo Rolle (German: Rollepass) is an Alpine pass in the autonomous province of Trento at an altitude of 1,980 m, connecting the valleys of Primiero and Fiemme.

The Passo Rolle is very popular with cyclists because of the picturesque scenery it offers, but also because of the low difficulty of the access roads on both sides5 : – from Fiera di Primiero via San Martino di Castrozza, the climb is very regular, 21 km long with an average gradient of 5.8% and a maximum of 11%; – from Predazzo with an average gradient of 4.6% and a maximum of 9% for a total length of 20 km. Descending from Rolle Pass towards Predazzo, you can reach the nearby Valles Pass by turning right after 6.5 km and continuing for another 8 km. The pass is one of the historic passes of the Dolomites, having been climbed several times by the Giro d’Italia. It was first climbed in the 19376 edition. In 1962, stage 14 started from Belluno and should have finished in Moena, but the direction of the race caused the Passo Rolle to be aborted early due to snow. In the 1978 edition, the pass was added to the route of stage 15 (Treviso to Canazei) at the last minute, along with the Valles Pass and the San Pellegrino Pass, after the Falzarego Pass and the Pordoi Pass had become impassable due to snow.
