Beschrijving

Alpe d’Huez is a winter sports resort in the French Alps. It is at an altitude of 1860 meters, on the southwest flank of the Pic Blanc. It is located in the massif of the Grandes Rousses, a massif in the southwestern Alps.

Alpe d’Huez was the finish site of the Tour de France 31 times through 2022. The climb begins in the village of Le Bourg d’Oisans, is 13.8 km long and has a gradient of 7.9%. A total of 1061 altimeters are covered. The mountain was first climbed in the 1952 Tour in the 10th stage (Lausanne – Alpe d’Huez), which was won by Fausto Coppi. It was the first Tour stage ever where the finish was on top of a mountain. The finish was then still in the village of Huez, about halfway up the climb, which today is climbed to the top. The mountain was last climbed in 2022 as the finish of the twelfth stage.Wikipedia
